The Howards/Checkerboard Charlie - Kinda Port Jeff's Finest EP

The Howards/Checkerboard Charlie - Kinda Port Jeff's Finest EP

Both of these bands hail from the town I grew up in, so seeing them at parties, high school events and local venues was a regular occurrence.  Members of The Howards went on to form A Boy Called Spite which then became Explosivo which then became Small Arms Dealer which then became Iron Chic.  I am not sure what happened to the members of Checkerboard Charlie.  On this record, The Howards deliver a frustrated teenage pop punk sound while Checkerboard Charlie offers a nice blend of punk and ska which was quite typical those days.  Enjoy!

Mind Over Matter - Automanipulation

Mind Over Matter - Automanipulation

Nine songs of PURE perfection.  This remains to this day one of my top favorite albums of all time.  Mind Over Matter was as good live as they captured on their albums.  This album takes the listener on a journey through the Long Island music scene during a time this band existed.  It mixes Long Island's deep rooted hardcore elements with the then, up and coming Emo (emotional hardcore, not the whiny stuff you have unfortunately been accustomed to over the years) style, providing a force you definitely can feel.  Every time I listen to this album it brings me right back to the PWAC on a Saturday night, thrashing around and singing along.  Enjoy!

Various Artists - Who Gits Da Deer? - A Creep Records Compilation

Various Artists - Who Gits Da Deer? - A Creep Records Compilation

Creep Records is a record label based out of West Chester, PA.  I traded a bootleg live Green Day album to my friend for this album (back when trading was cool).  The great part about this album is each band has 3 songs on it.  It allows you to really get the idea of what the band is like as opposed to the usual 1 song per band comps.  The Buglite album to this day is still in heavy rotation.  Enjoy!

02 - Plow - Complete Conformity
03 - Plow - World According To Me

Latex Generation - Bored EP

Latex Generation - Bored EP

When I bought this EP, it came with a xeroxed copy of the correct layout design over top of the incorrect printed insert. Gotta love DIY! I first saw this band some time after I purchased their first 2 EP's. I believe it was at Coney Island High opening for the Bouncing Souls? I had the opportunity to see them play a reunion show in NYC with Weston a couple of years back and ran into a lot of my old friends. It was nice to see proof in the idea we shared while growing up, that what we were part of was something that would last forever.

Plow United - West Chester Rock City EP

Plow United - West Chester Rock City EP

I first heard about Plow (later became Plow United) on the compilation "Who Gits The Deer" from Creep Records.  Another band I wish I had the opportunity to see.  This band is from Westchester, PA and created a buzz among local scenes all over the East Coast.  This EP is about 5 and a half minutes in length.  It is a quick but satisfying taste of what this band was all about.  Fast, catchy pop-punk anthems.  Enjoy!

Hellbender-Sleepasaurus - Split EP

Hellbender-Sleepasaurus - Split EP

To this day, this remains one of my favorite EPs I own possibly due to its nostalgic value. All around it is a solid assortment of songs by both Hellbender and Sleepasaurus. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see Hellbender live. Sleepasaurus on the other hand played its fair show of local Long Island shows. They were one of those bands that seemed to be more mature, providing one of the loudest shows I have seen and eventually moving their way off LI to do a few tours. After they split up, they formed Longdistancerunner, which EP will be available on here soon. Enjoy!

The Microwave Orphans - Andre Demo Tape

The Microwave Orphans - Andre Demo Tape

Straight out of Kings Park, NY, this band became known locally for their eccentric live performances, providing a party-like vibe, usually resulting in their singer, Matt Orphan, running around in a pair of tighty-whiteys sporting a megaphone yelling gibberish.  This band went through a series of name and member changes, but always managed to release solid tunes and definitely carved their niche in the history of the local Long Island music scene.

The Disenchanted - Demo Tape

The Disenchanted - Demo Tape

I first saw this band at a church show in Huntington, NY back in 1996 and instantly I was into it.  From what I remember, they used to travel down from the Albany area to Long Island to play shows pretty regularly.  This demo is more pop-punk than the metal/thrash stuff they released later in their brief existence.  Amazing band definitely worth checking out!  Great classic sing-a-long punk rock anthems!  Enjoy!

The Striped Basstards-Splurge - Split EP

The Striped Basstards-Splurge - Split EP

Growing up on the North Shore of Long Island, shows at Cedar Beach were a staple in the local scene.  A small, open brick building facing the Long Island Sound, this location became important to the early development of my musical influences.  The Striped Basstards and Splurge both played this location many times and forever this split EP will remind me of those balmy summer nights.

Sweet Diesel - Self-Titled EP

Sweet Diesel - Self-Titled EP

I found this record at a store on Bleecker Street on my first lone venture to NYC at the age of 16.  I believe this along with the Sleepasuarus/Hellbender split EP were the first 2 records I ever purchased.  Basically, I purchased this record because I recognized the name of this band from a show flyer I had received at some point.  Amazing melodic hardcore.  A great record worth taking for a spin!

Greensleep - Self-Titled EP

Greesleep - Self-Titled EP

Growing up on Long Island I had the privilege of being part an extensive local music scene where I was exposed to a wide variety of local talents.  Greensleep was on of those bands I liked because most of my friends liked them.  Thankfully, I picked up all of their EPs mainly because records were cheap.  I'm glad I did.  Melodic pop/punk greatness!
