VA - Victims Of The Modern Age - Food Not Bombs Comp

VA - Victims Of The Modern Age - Food Not Bombs Comp

Today's offering is brought to you by one of my many failed ventures. Basically, the story behind this one is I ran a (kind of) label out of NJ called DAB Records (Drunk And Broke Records, which was appropriate because I was at the time). One day, my friend Angelo and I decided we would do a comp that would feature a lot of our friends bands. We started contacting bands locally to see what kind of responses we could get. The response was good so we then began contacting bands throughout the country we were fans of and to say the least, it went really well. One minor detail we overlooked after pressing this was how the hell we would sell it? I still have 2 boxes of about 400 of this CD sitting in my closet. Lesson learned. Enjoy!

El Secondhand - Blood And Aphorisms EP

El Secondhand - Blood And Aphorisms EP

The band El Secondhand hailed from the great state of which I now call home, Joisey. When I first discovered this band, it was at a friends backyard show on Long Island and I was immediately impressed. This record was recorded at Technical Ecstacy in New Brunswick, NJ. This EP was released in 1997 and I believe there are still a few available on some online distro sites. El Secondhand delivers catchy and melodic fast punk rock, similar to the basement sound New Brunswick was known for at the time. Enjoy!

The Disenchanted - The Other White Trash EP

The Disenchanted - The Other White Trash EP

I believe this was The Disenchanted's first EP. This record was released on Angry, Young and Poor Records and featers many songs from the Demo Tape I previously posted. I missed the boat when this record came out and found a reasonably priced copy on eBay. I believe you can still find this record online at some old distro sites. Amazing mix of fast punk rock and catchy hooks about shitty chicks and politics.  What could be better?! Enjoy!

Freaks From The Apocalypse - We Always Knew Better

Freaks From The Apocalypse - We Always Knew Better

Freaks From The Apocalypse were a ska/punk band on Eiffel Trouser Records. My first experience with this band was when my band, Sedition, played a show with them at the Huntington YMCA. After that, I remember this band appearing regularly in the Long Island Ska/Punk scene. Recently, I uncovered the promo video shot for the song "Never Called Me Back" which you will find below. A few of the members of this band went on to form Space Robot Scientists, The Repercussion and more I am sure. Enjoy!

Clump - The We Couldn't Afford A Seven Inch Demo Tape

Clump - The We Couldn't Afford A Seven Inch Demo Tape

This demo tape is brought to you by cheese, porn and killer space monkeys hell . . Why wouldn't you be into it!? Clump was a band I knew through a network of friends and unfortunately I only got to see them once at a friends house party in crowded basement with a bad PA system (one of the best show environments in my opinion). All I remember from that night was waking up on beer soaked mattress on a concrete floor and somehow ending up at a diner? Members of this band went on to The Backup Plan, This Is Hell and many others. Twelve tracks of good old 4-track conceived punk rock. Enjoy!

The Devil Himself - Safety Scissors EP

The Devil Himself - Safety Scissors EP

In the evolution of how the The Howards became Iron Chic, The Devil Himself would be in the Pliocenes period. I believe this band came after A Boy Called Spite and before Small Arms Dealer, but I could be wrong. Anyway, this short 3 song EP is basically a Small Arms Dealer demo. I'm not sure if there were any member changes in between bands. Who the hell knows. Just check it out, it's good stuff. (sorry I do not have the artwork for this . . ) Enjoy!

48 In The Basement - She's Not Feeling Well Demo Cassette

48 In The Basement - She's Not Feeling Well Demo Cassette

48 in the Basement were a pop-punk band from Huntington, Long Island. This band was part of the scene of friends I grew up around. Unfortunately, I moved to New Jersey way before I got really got to experience their local impact on the Long Island pop-punk scene. Lyrically, these songs snapshot an image of the Long Island I remember so vividly to this day. Girl problems, endless hours at the diner and late night parking lot out hang out sessions seemed to be all we had on that over-crowded sandbar we called our home. To our youth!

Wasted Time - When It Was Fun

Wasted Time - When It Was Fun

Wasted Time was one of those bands where when you went to see them you knew you were going to have a good time.  To my knowledge, "When It Was Fun" is the only release this band had (but I could be wrong).  This band was pretty much the definition of "pop-punk" with their catchy chorus' and mandatory cover songs.  If I remember correctly, their bassist "Bunky" threw a number of local shows in his basement.  I remember seeing this band numerous times when growing up including one distinct memory of some outdoor venue that turned into a cheesy dance club after the show.  Ahh, Long Island.  Enjoy!

Garden Variety - Hedge EP

Garden Variety - Hedge EP

Garden Variety was one of those bands I grew up listening to but really didn't appreciate fully until I was older.  I believe the reason for this was based on my interests at that time.  I was into "punk rock" and this band's style fit more into the 90's alternative genre.  Don't get me wrong, I liked them enough to purchase all of their albums, it just took a couple years to understand how amazing this band really is.  The "Hedge" EP was their first EP and was released in 1992.  Enjoy!

Sleepasaurus - Master of Muppits EP

Sleepasaurus - Master of Muppits EP

This one comes to you via special request from Jason @ To Live and Die on LI. Go check out his blog, he has quite a collection of those dusty gems you all grew up listening to. Sleepasaurus' "Master of Muppits" hands down wins for the best album title and cover art.  It also contains one of my favorite Sleepasaurus songs, "Rub".  This band was a high energy pop/punk band that was one of the loudest and most entertaining local talents out of Long Island at the time.  Members of this band later formed a band called "Long Distance Runner".

VA - Eiffel Trousers Records Sampler - Bad Music For Bad People

VA - Eiffel Trousers Records Sampler - Bad Music For Bad People

In the summer of 1996, my band at the time, Sedition, arrived at the  illustrious Rubber Chicken Studios to record everything we had ever written before our drummer was to move back to Germany.  I remember a 4 track, a 24 pack, 5 dudes and a hot, sticky basement.  It was probably one of the most unique recording experiences I have ever been involved with.   Needless to say, we made it through everything (somehow) which can be heard on this sampler.  Eiffel Trousers Records was a record label run by my good buddy, Matt Orphan.  The diversity of the songs on this cassette is a prime example of what this label was all about.  Enjoy!

Celebrity Roast - Truly Outrageous; Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous

Celebrity Roast - Truly Outrageous; Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous

Celebrity Roast was formed after The Disenchanted broke up.  I found out about this band through a friend, but never had the chance to see them.  This album "Truly Outrageous; Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous" was the second and final album they released.  I cannot find the first one (if you have it, hook a brotha up!).  This one incorporates some of the faster hardcore/punk sound The Disenchanted were known for while integrating a more catchy, old school rock 'n roll feel.  This is one of those bands that should have stuck together a bit longer and made some more records.  Anyway, enjoy!

The Warped Weeble Wobbles - 7" of Mr. Furley EP

The Warped Weeble Wobbles - 7" of Mr. Furley EP

The Warped Weeble Wobbles brought a lighter, more humorous side to local Long Island Hardcore scene.  When you belong to a scene (regardless of what it is), you will always begin to notice a lot of people saying one thing and doing another.  Back then, it was all bout unity and togetherness, yet you would witness fights more times than not at the local shows.  This band would not only call these people out, but these people "accepted" this band and were paying to see their shows and buy their stuff.  This band was cliche and was not subtle about it.  In fact, they did it better than most of the respected bands who took themselves too seriously.  "I just piece together bits, of old 7 seconds songs, so my band could have, a sing-a-long hardcore song".
