VA - Just Another Comp - Punkture Point Records

VA - Just Another Comp - Punkture Point Records

Welcome back to a time when everyone had a record label, even myself. Punkture Point Records was a small label based out of New Jersey who I came in contact with during the time I began organizing the Victims of the Modern Age comp. This is the labels only release that I am aware of. Similar to many comps released during this era, it features NY and NJ pop-punk and ska bands. Enjoy!

Track Listing:
01 - LWL - Blame It On John Paddock
02 - Shower With Goats - Ownership
03 - The Youth Ahead - You Can't Have Her
04 - Shaft El Grupo De Rock - Firecracker
05 - All About You - All In A Day's Work
06 - Cents Less - Superhero
07 - Face First - Not Me
08 - Embarassing Wrecks - Way On
09 - Moxie - You And Me

The Disenchanted - Comp Tracks & Rarities Collection

The Disenchanted - Comp Tracks & Rarities Collection

This isn't an official release, rather it is a collection of songs by The Disenchated that had been released on compilations or were never released. Again, this was an Albany based punk rock band that frequented itself on the Island enough to almost be considered from there. One of my favorite tracks they wrote is on this called "Retrieve Sock". Enjoy!

Weston/Sticks & Stones - Split EP

Weston/Sticks & Stones - Split EP

Weston was and now is again, a pop-punk band from the Lehigh Valley in PA. I remember seeing these guys a fair amount out on the Island and opening for "bigger" bands in the city. I will never forget when they were put on a show with ths Casualties at the P.W.A.C. You can only imagine how that went. They signed to GoKart Records and then a major I believe. Sticks & Stones was the Bouncing Souls famed, Johnny X's band. I picked this EP up at a distro table at a show at the P.W.A.C back in the 90's. Enjoy!

Splurge - Five and a Half Songs Demo Tape

Splurge - Five and a Half Songs Demo Tape

I found this dusty gem at the end of an old mix tape I created back in the 90's. I dubbed this off the original demo tape my friend let me borrow. I appologize for the dodgy quality, lack of original artwork and track listing. I try to be as thorough as possible when it comes the organization of my music library, but this one is nearly impossible to complete. I'm not sure if "Pissin' on the Grass" was on the original demo release, but I included it anyway. Enjoy!

Vision of Disorder - 1993, 1994 and 1995 Demos

Vision of Disorder - 1993, 1994 and 1995 Demos

Today, we have a 3 for 1 deal. In preparation for the Vision of Disorder, Glassjaw and Mind Over Matter show that is tomorrow at the Best Buy Theater in NYC, I bring you Vision of Disorder's 1993, 1994 AND 1995 demos. VOD was pretty much the house band at the P.W.A.C. They played there frequently and the shows were brutal and chaotic but unified. The shows were high energy and I don't think I have seen a pit or pile on quite like the ones I witnessed there. Possibly ever. Enjoy!

Two Man Advantage/The Loiterers - Split EP

Two Man Advantage/The Loiterers - Split EP

This one comes to you thanks to my buddy Josh. Two Man Advantage is a hockey themed punk rock group, from Merrick, Long Island, New York. They met via Beer-League hockey and formed the band in 1997. Their shows are very wild as they will dress up and basically put on a "Mock hockey game" on-stage. The Loiterers were a fun drunk punk rock band who were always a good time live. I will always remember this band for the brilliant line "she sprayed mace in my face, and then she kicked me in the balls." Enjoy!

Gettysburg - Welcome to the Whistle Club EP

Gettysburg - Welcome to the Whistle Club EP

Shameless self promotion? Yadda, yadda, yadda. This is my blog? Yadda, yadda, yadda. Throughout my existance on this earth, I have been in countless bands, beginning at the age of 15. Some disbanded within weeks, some lasted years, taking me to places I never thought I'd go. I can say the band I am in now is the most fun I've had with the people I've decided to surround myself with. Writing music is something I don't think I will be able to ever give up and this EP makes me proud to say I made it this far. Back to those old dusty gems tomorrow. Enjoy!

Latex Generation - I Killed The President EP

Latex Generation - I Killed The President EP

I remember picking up this record from a distro table at one of my first shows at the P.W.A.C. After the show, I came home and dug up one of my parents old 70's record players from the basement to listen to it. I fell in love with this record immediately. The first thing I remember noticing is how the songs were not the typical one and a half minute punk rock jams I was used to, rather they were a mixture of different styles. I mean c'mon, "Fuck me, I'm a rock star"? How could this record NOT win? Today, the record I still own is pretty much destroyed due to the amount of rotations it's endured. Enjoy!

Sleepasaurus - Plan 7 From Outer Space Split EP

Sleepasaurus - Plan 7 From Outer Space Split EP

This dusty gem holds one of my favorite songs Sleepasaurs recorded during their career (Conversations With You). Combined, I believe the 2 Sleepasaurus songs are 3 minutes in legnth. This was released on Motherbox Records, one of the big local record labels around during that time. I didn't digitize The Bollweeviles song because I was never really a fan and their lone song on this EP isn't very good. If you are gung ho on having it, Im sure I can make it happen. Enjoy!

Buglite - This Day . . EP

Buglite - This Day . . EP

Today, we all jump in the short bus and take a class field trip to West Chester, PA. In the 90's, Creep Records pumped out some amazing bands, some still known and some remain unknown. Buglite is a band I found out about when I purchased the Who Gits Da Deer? comp (see a prior post). I remember listening to the track "I See You" and immediately being into this bands fun, pop-punk sound similar to another band I was big into at the time, Zoinks!. In my travels, I have actually met a few people around the country that remember this band which always came as quite a surprise. I apologize, I really have no back story on this band and never had a chance to see them live. Enjoy!

48 in the Basement/The Microwave Orphans - Young N' Abrasive

48 in the Basement/The Microwave Orphans - Young N' Abrasive

What can I say, this album has the best title, amazing artwork and two of the bands I enjoyed the most locally while growning up. It is made up of 6 songs from both 48 in the Basement and The Microwave Orphans and in my opinion it is comprised of the best material both of these bands recorded in their careers. A journey through the day in the life of a suburban Long Island teenager with stories of hearbreak, trips to the mall and wiffle ball in D & D parking lots. Enjoy!

The Embarrassing Rex - Empty Pocket Syndrome

The Embarrassing Rex - Empty Pocket Syndrome

The Embarrassing Rex started out on Eiffel Trousers Records, but I think this album was released on Grunshop Records. The band later changed their name to The Embarrassing Wrecks for reasons I am unaware of. This band delivered your typical catchy pop-punk songs about girls and high school. I believe I saw them a few times in NJ before they finally called it quits in 2000. I'm not really sure if anyone in the band went on to do anything else. Their Angelfire website is still online if you want to check it out:

The Backup Plan - 2001 Demo CD

The Backup Plan - 2001 Demo CD

I've always been a big fan of the material this band released. Catchy, fast sing-a-long punk rock, very remanicient of Kid Dynamite. Unfortunately, I had already moved off the Island during their local scene peak, but I did manage to catch a few shows the few times I went back. Great sound clip at the end of track 3 with Dee Snyder mentioning None of the Above records (favorite record store during my stay on the isle) and Depends underwears. Classic. Enjoy!

Kempleton - Music To Woo Her

Kempleton - Music To Woo Her

This release is a bit of a mystery to me. I am not quite sure how or where I found it, but it was probably due to the fact this band was on the Traffic Violation Records 6 Band Split EP. Here is information I found online regarding this bands history:

"A garage, or rather basement, band from Long Island, New York who played out with other Traffic Violation Records bands from 1993-1997.

Kempleton was the first band to be booked at the eventually legendary Cedar Beach shows in Mount Sinai, New York thanks to fellow Mount Sinai High School friends Alesandra Bellos and Sean Fredrick Keane who were invited to sit in on a North Shore Youth Council meeting discussing the new initiative.

Disbanded in 1997, two of the founding members reunited in 2003 to form a creative collective that works to facilitate expression between geographicly dispersed peers. This soon to be not-for-profit organization can be found at http://www.kempleton.com."

The Microwave Orphans - While You Were Out Being Straight Edge EP

The Microwave Orphans - While You Were Out Being Straight Edge EP

The Microwave Orphans will always be one of those bands that people are familiar with but do not fully understand. The albums they realeased really cannot even begin to explain who this band was or what they were about. The music over the years remained consistant, even considering the numerous memeber changes over the years. The true essence of this band was their live performance (as I briefly explained in a previus post). To my knowledge, this EP was the last material they released prior to forming The Repercussions. Splurge - Exit/Stretch EP

I apologize for the lack of updates as of recent. The time my daily routine exhausts sometimes prohibits my ability to focus on enjoyable tasks, like updating this blog, but I will try and be more consistant. Anywho, Splurge is one of those bands that always will remind me of where I grew up. Lyrically, they depict the Long Island that is eternally embedded in my mind. An overcrowded sandbar with everything anyone could ever want and everyone always looking for something to do. High energy, melodic pop punk. Enjoy!

VA - Victims Of The Modern Age - Food Not Bombs Comp

VA - Victims Of The Modern Age - Food Not Bombs Comp

Today's offering is brought to you by one of my many failed ventures. Basically, the story behind this one is I ran a (kind of) label out of NJ called DAB Records (Drunk And Broke Records, which was appropriate because I was at the time). One day, my friend Angelo and I decided we would do a comp that would feature a lot of our friends bands. We started contacting bands locally to see what kind of responses we could get. The response was good so we then began contacting bands throughout the country we were fans of and to say the least, it went really well. One minor detail we overlooked after pressing this was how the hell we would sell it? I still have 2 boxes of about 400 of this CD sitting in my closet. Lesson learned. Enjoy!

El Secondhand - Blood And Aphorisms EP

The band El Secondhand hailed from the great state of which I now call home, Joisey. When I first discovered this band, it was at a friends backyard show on Long Island and I was immediately impressed. This record was recorded at Technical Ecstacy in New Brunswick, NJ. This EP was released in 1997 and I believe there are still a few available on some online distro sites. El Secondhand delivers catchy and melodic fast punk rock, similar to the basement sound New Brunswick was known for at the time. Enjoy!

I believe this was The Disenchanted's first EP. This record was released on Angry, Young and Poor Records and featers many songs from the Demo Tape I previously posted. I missed the boat when this record came out and found a reasonably priced copy on eBay. I believe you can still find this record online at some old distro sites. Amazing mix of fast punk rock and catchy hooks about shitty chicks and politics.  What could be better?! Enjoy!

Freaks From The Apocalypse - We Always Knew Better

Freaks From The Apocalypse were a ska/punk band on Eiffel Trouser Records. My first experience with this band was when my band, Sedition, played a show with them at the Huntington YMCA. After that, I remember this band appearing regularly in the Long Island Ska/Punk scene. Recently, I uncovered the promo video shot for the song "Never Called Me Back" which you will find below. A few of the members of this band went on to form Space Robot Scientists, The Repercussion and more I am sure. Enjoy!

Clump - The We Couldn't Afford A Seven Inch Demo Tape

This demo tape is brought to you by cheese, porn and killer space monkeys hell . . Why wouldn't you be into it!? Clump was a band I knew through a network of friends and unfortunately I only got to see them once at a friends house party in crowded basement with a bad PA system (one of the best show environments in my opinion). All I remember from that night was waking up on beer soaked mattress on a concrete floor and somehow ending up at a diner? Members of this band went on to The Backup Plan, This Is Hell and many others. Twelve tracks of good old 4-track conceived punk rock. Enjoy!

The Devil Himself - Safety Scissors EP

The Devil Himself - Safety Scissors EP

In the evolution of how the The Howards became Iron Chic, The Devil Himself would be in the Pliocenes period. I believe this band came after A Boy Called Spite and before Small Arms Dealer, but I could be wrong. Anyway, this short 3 song EP is basically a Small Arms Dealer demo. I'm not sure if there were any member changes in between bands. Who the hell knows. Just check it out, it's good stuff. (sorry I do not have the artwork for this . . ) Enjoy!

48 In The Basement - She's Not Feeling Well Demo Cassette

48 in the Basement were a pop-punk band from Huntington, Long Island. This band was part of the scene of friends I grew up around. Unfortunately, I moved to New Jersey way before I got really got to experience their local impact on the Long Island pop-punk scene. Lyrically, these songs snapshot an image of the Long Island I remember so vividly to this day. Girl problems, endless hours at the diner and late night parking lot out hang out sessions seemed to be all we had on that over-crowded sandbar we called our home. To our youth!

Wasted Time - When It Was Fun

Wasted Time - When It Was Fun

Wasted Time was one of those bands where when you went to see them you knew you were going to have a good time.  To my knowledge, "When It Was Fun" is the only release this band had (but I could be wrong).  This band was pretty much the definition of "pop-punk" with their catchy chorus' and mandatory cover songs.  If I remember correctly, their bassist "Bunky" threw a number of local shows in his basement.  I remember seeing this band numerous times when growing up including one distinct memory of some outdoor venue that turned into a cheesy dance club after the show.  Ahh, Long Island.  Enjoy!

Garden Variety - Hedge EP

Garden Variety - Hedge EP

Garden Variety was one of those bands I grew up listening to but really didn't appreciate fully until I was older.  I believe the reason for this was based on my interests at that time.  I was into "punk rock" and this band's style fit more into the 90's alternative genre.  Don't get me wrong, I liked them enough to purchase all of their albums, it just took a couple years to understand how amazing this band really is.  The "Hedge" EP was their first EP and was released in 1992.  Enjoy!

This one comes to you via special request from Jason @ To Live and Die on LI. Go check out his blog, he has quite a collection of those dusty gems you all grew up listening to. Sleepasaurus' "Master of Muppits" hands down wins for the best album title and cover art.  It also contains one of my favorite Sleepasaurus songs, "Rub".  This band was a high energy pop/punk band that was one of the loudest and most entertaining local talents out of Long Island at the time.  Members of this band later formed a band called "Long Distance Runner".

VA - Eiffel Trousers Records Sampler - Bad Music For Bad People

In the summer of 1996, my band at the time, Sedition, arrived at the  illustrious Rubber Chicken Studios to record everything we had ever written before our drummer was to move back to Germany.  I remember a 4 track, a 24 pack, 5 dudes and a hot, sticky basement.  It was probably one of the most unique recording experiences I have ever been involved with.   Needless to say, we made it through everything (somehow) which can be heard on this sampler.  Eiffel Trousers Records was a record label run by my good buddy, Matt Orphan.  The diversity of the songs on this cassette is a prime example of what this label was all about.  Enjoy!

Celebrity Roast was formed after The Disenchanted broke up.  I found out about this band through a friend, but never had the chance to see them.  This album "Truly Outrageous; Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous" was the second and final album they released.  I cannot find the first one (if you have it, hook a brotha up!).  This one incorporates some of the faster hardcore/punk sound The Disenchanted were known for while integrating a more catchy, old school rock 'n roll feel.  This is one of those bands that should have stuck together a bit longer and made some more records.  Anyway, enjoy!

The Warped Weeble Wobbles - 7" of Mr. Furley EP

The Warped Weeble Wobbles - 7" of Mr. Furley EP

The Warped Weeble Wobbles brought a lighter, more humorous side to local Long Island Hardcore scene.  When you belong to a scene (regardless of what it is), you will always begin to notice a lot of people saying one thing and doing another.  Back then, it was all bout unity and togetherness, yet you would witness fights more times than not at the local shows.  This band would not only call these people out, but these people "accepted" this band and were paying to see their shows and buy their stuff.  This band was cliche and was not subtle about it.  In fact, they did it better than most of the respected bands who took themselves too seriously.  "I just piece together bits, of old 7 seconds songs, so my band could have, a sing-a-long hardcore song".
